Job overview

Head of Year (PE Teacher)

MPS/UPS + TLR (TLR1a £9,817)

Ofsted Good – 2024

Commencing September

Heathcote School and Science College is an inclusive community school with key values to Encourage, Challenge and Succeed. The values are integral in everything we do to support and nurture pupils to achieve the best possible outcomes in a safe and happy learning environment. Feedback from our recent Ofsted report (February 2024) confirmed Staff greatly enjoy working at the school. They hugely value the support they receive for their workload and well-being.

We are looking for a qualified and talented PE teacher to take on the role as Head of Year and to teach PE across the ability range to GCSE, and A Level. Heads of Year support Y7 to 11 and have a transitional post that will move up through the relevant year groups to the year group they support throughout their school journey. We hope to appoint an experienced PE teacher as part of this post. A key focus of the role will be to:

·        ensure that pupils are supported to ‘be the best they can be’ in all aspects of school life and embrace the vision of ‘encourage, challenge and succeed’

·        raise standards resulting in high levels of engagement and success in school (as measured in progress data, high attendance and low levels of internal/external exclusions)

·        ensure compliance with all the school’s policies and systems

We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational leader to be part of the team that drives the school to the next stage of its development and who can inspire other staff to grow and develop to be the best. You must be an experienced and successful teacher (at least 2 years of experience) with evidence of a wider commitment to school life. You will need to show a solution-focused attitude and understand the varied nature of the role. Head of Year currently have a loading of 30/50 periods which is much more generous than most schools and recognizes the nature of the role.

The school puts well-being and development at the heart of its work, and we have very talented staff who are encouraged to grow and develop collaboratively, within school and with local schools, to be the best they can be. We are working to raise standards in a ‘high challenge, low threat’ way and enable robust systems which ensure consistency in all areas and encourage growth and development for all. The school has excellent resources and an impressive, spacious site on the edge of Epping Forest including a staff car park and surrounding roads that do not require a parking permit. We are also a 15-minute walk from Chingford Station which has great links into the City.

We aim to ensure our staff body reflects the diversity of our community and use anonymised-recruitment processes in our short-listing. We employ staff with diverse skills and backgrounds and this ensures that our policies and systems are always inclusive of all our stakeholders. We value and respect everyone’s identity and our Equality Information and Objectives Policy confirms our commitment to the 2010 Equalities Act.
